Alone in an ancient forest, you kneel at the whispering waters of a nearby pond. Your being is void of history, nothing more than a blank slate waiting to be written in sylvan surroundings. Seeking eyes scan the pond’s surface for answers and spot something drifting towards the damp earth at your feet. Propelled along by the breath of creation, Jumalten Aika floats into your outstretched hands. Upon contact, the musical images of gods and wanton creations flood your mind. The paramount spirits of the past instill purpose within you. A journey begins, but is it for the first time?

Hypnotic chanting accompanied by spectral shakers and jaw harp herald the Age Of Gods in Jumalten Aika. Raw guitar tones drive tales of bygone times into your subconscious while sepulchral keyboards swirl around you in a captivating veil. A guttural voice dictates knowledge of your land’s formation through a song you will soon master. Ruttolehto incl. Päivättömän Päivän Kansa invokes perilous acoustics that weave a warning. Droning vocals tempt you to drink from the water where your being began. Hidden incantations lay just beneath the watery exterior until catchy folk melodies bring them to your lips. You sip heavily as a rush of ancient power forcefully embraces you. Now imbued with the god-like strength and wisdom of the beyond, you begin to test your untrained skills. Miracles of impossible feats and feasts scream forth from your mouth, but are soon pulverized by disdainful drums. The meat turns rancid and the true nature of this curse takes shape. Shamanistic voices beg you to end the darkness. A sacrifice must be made! The gloom of Suden Tunti brings your trials to light when rhythmic judgement strikes. Sludgy strings summon shadows to imprison you in tortured solitude. Hatred boils within your aged form, consuming all you are. Eventually, grief stricken guitars reach your ears. Sunken eyes look down at withered hands. How much time has passed?! Mimisbrunn echoes a tone of sadness and reflection. Solemn singing reveals the journey and destruction you left behind and leaves you waiting wistfully for the end to come. Your eventual passing gives way to Ihmisen Aika (Kumarrus Pimeyteen). Human violence seeps its way into the world. A gritty and angry battle hymn engulfs the denizens left behind. War consumes life itself and this journey completes its circle.

Whether you are woefully contemplating the distant past, sitting at home sipping mead, or dancing skyclad in the moonlight, Jumalten Aika is the perfect musical companion! MOONSORROW knows how to evoke stirring spiritual feelings through their music and this album is no exception to their prowess!

I couldn’t escape the feeling of being surrounded by trees while immersing myself in the emotions of Jumalten Aika, and that inspired me to find a beer that awakens the same sensation! Mother Earth Brew Co. has long since won me over with their solid lineup of craft beers, and Primordial beckoned me to pair it with this album! An Imperial India Pale Ale that has the hops and pine flavor to send your senses straight to the forest while masterfully blending citrus and resin to create a smooth and relaxing flavor. Let the meaningful tones of Jumalten Aika consume you, while you consume a cold Primordial brew! Kippis!
